I often have people complaining that they are overwhelmed and have too many things to manage. When we say yes to buying something or doing something or reading something, we forget the consequences. Now we need to take care of that thing. Every item we bring into the house requires maintenance. We need to clean it. Fix it. Move it. Organize it. They all take time, space and money. When we say yes to doing something, now we need to do it. Plan for it. Plan around it. Not do other activities that are more important to us. If we say yes to that that committee position, volunteering to do the office holiday party or signing kids up for one too many activities we have to say no to other opportunities. If the position, holiday party and transporting kids too often is not a priority, you have made it one by saying yes. Every bit of information we take in, now needs to be processed. We decide if we are going to do implement it, enjoy it or think on it. Or if we wasted time reading it. We spend tons of time scrolling and skimming posts that are unimportant to us. A meaningful, slower life with less overwhelm, requires us to be conscious of what we say yes to. What we buy. What we consume. How much we watch. What we do. We need to be making choices, not out of fear of what everyone else is doing, what I may miss out on or what they will think of me, but out of our values. You need to be like a museum curator. Only letting in what works for your life. Where are you feeling resentful and overwhelmed? Is that area aligned with your values?
